Milton Reserves 1 – Corby Pegasus Reserves 2 (Stephen McCabe, Daniel Sinclair) 17th September 2011 (Match Report by Paul Gallagher)

After two home wins in the Reserves Premier Division, Peg went into their first away game in decent form and full of confidence. Milton had lost their first couple of games by some distance but as ever in Reserves football you can’t take anything for granted.

This was the message that the management team gave to the lads in the pre-match team talk and it soon transpired as the game started that this was a completely different Milton side to previous weeks.

On to the game and to be truthful it was one to quickly forget. On a sloped pitch full of holes and divots and in poor weather conditions at times, there was very little football played by either side.

Milton took the lead after about 30 minutes, but Pegasus equalised almost immediately. A left footed Stephen McCabe cross was fumbled by the goal keeper and then bounced off a defender under pressure from Trim before trickling over the line. Needless to say Stevo claimed the goal!  Also at some point the joint Manager tells me he went on a foray up front for the second week in a row….It must have been at the moment when myself and the subs ran off to the shelter during the downpour as I can’t remember it!!

Peg started the 2nd half brightly and Daniel Sinclair quickly put us 2.1 ahead with a smart finish from the right hand side of the box.  The game then resorted back to the pattern of the 1st half with a lot of battling from either side.

With about five minutes remaining the game went a little crazy, the home side had a player sent off, and Peg had 3 or 4 great chances to kill the game off. At the other end the home goalkeeper came up for a corner and unchallenged had a header cleared off the line. Also Chris Hurling made a fantastic last ditch tackle to prevent a certain equaliser.

So another good 3 points in the bag against a team that we feel will get stronger.

Plus points…..a good 70 minutes run out for Chwaz up front(we will let him off with his first half effort which still hasn’t come down) Shaun Sinclair came on as sub for his first game of the season and showed that he can do a very good job for the team.  Lewis in goals, playing his first game for some time got more confident as the game progressed and took some difficult crosses late on to relieve the pressure.

Minus Points….although we warned against it before hand, I think we subconsciously lowered our standards thinking it may be an easy game.

Danny Stratford takes Man of Match with a composed display from centre midfield.

This win took us to the top of the league early in the season and we now have a massive game at home against Moulton next week before a break for the County Cup. Let’s make it four wins out of four and get 12 points on the board.
