Cup Quarter Final
Pegasus could have had an easier draw in the league cup
than 2nd placed in the league Brixworth but it seems as though it is
going to be one of those seasons were we have to do everything the hard way.
After some late call offs we had to make some last minute
changes to the team but were still confident that we could win the tie.
On a decent pitch Pegasus started very well and where on
top for the majority of the 1st half with lots of pressure forcing a
number of corners that Ryan delivered with great quality into the box. The
pressure finally paid off with a goal and at this stage the home side seemed in
some disarray, arguing amongst themselves and with the referee.
However they where thrown a lifeline when following a rare
attack in the Peg box a penalty was awarded and converted to make the half time
score 1-1. The lads were gutted as it looked like a great tackle from Mark
Sinclair and this is the second week in a row that we have punished in this
manner.
The second half started and Brixworth upped their game
considerably. However the game was still very even with few chances at either
end. Peg could have nicked it late on with a goal line scramble following
another great corner from Ryan. Disaster then struck in the last minute. One of
the Peg midfielders dwelled on the ball in his own box when a clearance should
have been made. The Brixworth striker nicked it off him and passed it across the
box for a tap in from 5 yards out. There was not enough time left for us to
force extra time and the final whistle blew.
The lads were very, very down in the changing room but good
luck to Brixworth in the next round.
This was our last game of the calendar year and 2011 has to
go down in the record books as excellent time for the Reserves. Unbeaten at home
in all competitions, an Area Cup and League title in the bag, and also being
well placed in the Prem at our first attempt should not be underestimated.
Happy Christmas to everyone involved at the club. Thanks to
the lads from Gally and Sean for a great year on the pitch and here’s to a
successful 2012.
