Corby Pegasus Reserves 2 : Roade Reserves 2

The opening game of the season finally came round and after mixed performances during pre season what happened today was really anyones guess. It was the same opening fixture as last year when Pegasus ran out as 6 - 2 losers on the day so obviously we were looking for improvement.
There was no first team game today resulting in plenty of players to choose from and a small firm on the balcony. Despite this the squad consisted of what pretty much what looks like being the reserve team for the season. The squad looked fairly strong with players on the bench that are more than capable of starting.
We didnt exactly get off to a flying start but it has to be said that out of the two teams Pegasus definitely looked the brighter. There werent many pieces of quality football however, any that occurred came from the home side.
James McCann had a chance early on and it wasnt long before a good ball from Scott Nicol found James in some space on the right wing. Another neat pass from him left Hippo with a chance that was easier to score than miss. Fortunately he did the first one and Pegasus were 1 - 0 up.
Soon enough though TM looked to be put through by a ball over the top, unfortunately it was obstructed by their center backs hand. By the strict letter of the law this was at least a card. The Ref however, was lenient and awarded just a free kick. It was in a promising position and John Duffy stepped up. A well driven low shot was neatly placed and just clipped the inside of the post before going in. 2 - 0 Pegasus.
Road didnt have much to offer in the first half, only once forcing Sean into real action making him produce a quality reflex save when the striker looked odds on to score.
The half time team talk was fairly relaxed with just a few errors we were making needing to be pointed out and dealt with.
The second half however, was quite a different story from the first. Pegasus never really seemed to get started. Soon a few errors began to creep in and work rate and discipline dropped throughout the team.
This led to Roade creating some chances and although at times Pegasus defended well it wasnt enough to stop them getting back in the game. They pulled it back to 2 -2 and it has to be said it was more through errors from the host rather than anything else.
The introduction of Cwaz up front and a fantastic minute from Scalesy seemed to breath some life into the side but we could still be playing now and would never have nicked a winner.
Overall not a bad performance to kick off the new season but some definite room for improvement.
